Porter “Port” Robertson
Class of the 1930s · Oklahoma
Raised in Edmond and an All-American at Oklahoma in 1935. He came home from
World War II with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart from the Normandy invasion, took over
a Sooner program that had not fielded a team since 1941, and won national championships
in 1951, 1952 and 1957. He coached the United States to three gold medals at the 1960
Olympics in Rome. OU's wrestling center carries his name.
Gary Breece
State Champion 1968 · Oklahoma
Won at 98 pounds for the Bulldogs in 1968, then became the first Sooner wrestler
ever to earn four All-America honors. He closed his career with the 1974 NCAA title at
118 pounds, a 3–2 decision that helped deliver Oklahoma's last team championship.
T.J. Jaworsky
Four-Time State Champion 1987–1990 · North Carolina
Four Oklahoma titles and a 110–2 high school record. He transferred from
Oklahoma State to North Carolina and won three straight NCAA championships at 134 pounds.
His senior season finished 38–0, and he became the first wrestler ever to receive the
Dan Hodge Award — the sport's Heisman.
Johny Hendricks
Three-Time State Champion 2000–2002 · Oklahoma State
Finished high school 101–5 with three state titles and two Junior National
freestyle championships. At Oklahoma State he was a four-time All-American and won
back-to-back NCAA titles at 165 pounds in 2005 and 2006. He later became UFC
Welterweight Champion.
